Ride Baby Ride

The Baby Record

The Baby Record is to help parents and caregivers interact with a baby, giving them their first best step and a great start in life! From birth, you will be hugging, talking, bouncing, playing, smiling, and laughing with your baby. The album includes everything from bouncy rhymes to lullabies. The instructions are clear, and the songs are sung simply, without accompaniment. Put the recording on, the baby on your knee, and off you go!

Research shows that singing and playing rhythmic games with your baby develops language and listening skills, concentration, self confidence and discipline, and an emotional sense of well-being. In fact, there is likely no other natural activity that will benefit your baby’s physical, intellectual, and emotional growth more than the kind of activities and songs on this recording. From the moment of birth, every child enjoys music and rhythm, listening, moving, being sung to, and vocalizing back. The Baby Record is the natural way to boost your baby’s brain development.

  • “An absolute gem.”

    Parents Magazine
  • “THE BEST BABY CD OUT THERE…Bob and Katharine’s voices are beautiful. The songs and rhymes are classic and fun – very gripping to young babies (and older ones, too). It helped us bond very early with our new son, and I send it to all new mothers, as I know their little one will enjoy it tremendously.

Reviews and Related Materials

In the 70s, shortly after I became the music teacher on Sesame Street, I decided that I’d like to record a few songs for children. At the time, I was performing live family concerts with symphony orchestras in North America. A number of orchestral musicians in Canada told me about a record producer in Toronto by the name of Bill Usher who had produced several quality recordings for young children. I called Bill and he said that he and Katharine Smithrim were in the process of recording 2 LPs for babies and toddlers. They asked if I would like to be a part of the project. Having taught music classes for parents with babies and toddlers in Toronto, Katharine took the lead in choosing the material. We hit it off right from the start and had great fun with the project. Together, we recorded The Baby Record and Songs & Games for Toddlers. Both recordings have sold many thousands of copies over the years.
